Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Years 4 and 5 had a phenomenal time with the green screens today.
By using their awesome North American research, fantastic acting skills, creative flare and green screen equipment, Year 5 were able to entice visitors to some top USA attractions with their tourist information broadcasts.
They began by filming themselves against a green (or blue) screen - notice the different clothing? Once they were happy with their broadcast, they used the green screen app to add backgrounds and various effects to really make their films pop.
Throughout the afternoon, Year 4 had a slightly different green screening experience - instead of filming themselves, they used their inventive creations from yesterday (adding a bit of pizzazz to them) to generate super stop frame animations. Again, they had to select suitable backgrounds for their animations, add effects and of course - think of a story.
Whilst Years 4 and 5 were busy with their green screening, Foundation Stage carried on with their range of exciting activities and began coding their biscuits - did their cookie creations turn out as planned? What problems did they face?
Year 1 have had a totally loopy time finding out more about coding through the use of dance.
Today it was Year 2's turn to try their hand at the 2go challenges on Purple Mash. They needed to apply directional knowledge and coding to solve the challenges at hand. Did they find it easy or hard? How far through the challenges did they manage to get?
Year 3 got to meet a very intelligent piece of stone who has never lost a game of noughts and crosses! Armed with a simple algorithm, the children took on their partners in games of noughts and crosses ... Did anyone manage to beat the algorithm? They looked at the similarities between the instructions they had and the codes they have previously used.
More Egyptian themed fun for Year 6 as they designed and created their very own £D computerised maze game - complete with rewards, obstacles and baddies to escape from (Think 3D Pac Man).
Technology Week - Day 3 - The Drones have landed!
Another fun day at Weddington Primary, shaping our computer geniuses of the future.
Year 6 had to combine a variety of maths and programming skills and add a great deal of trial and error with a good serving of perseverance to solve two separate drone challenges.
First of all, the children worked in pairs to figure out the code which would successfully navigate their ground drone around the assault course. After that, they took to the air! This time the challenge was to fathom the code which would successfully fly their air drone from the launch pad to the target - ask them, what did they score?
The session ended with the children discovering the variety of ways which drones are used in everyday life ... and the concepts for how they could be used to help us in the future.
Foundation Stage have begun to think about the biscuit they would like to create and how they will be able to use code blocks to instruct a friend to make their concept.
Year 1 have been solving some navigational challenges using 2go on Purple Mash, how many challenges did they manage to solve? What did they find difficult and what was easy?
Year 2 found out that digital images are made up of thousands of pixels, which when viewed together, create the image they see on the screen. In order for them to see this in action, they have coloured their own pixel colouring sheets. They had to think about the best way to approach the colouring, would they do all the same numbers at once or perhaps attack it a row at a time? Was there maybe another way they decided to complete their sheets?
Year 3 were only able to communicate by indicating a symbol to their partner, each symbol representing a different instruction. Could they get their partner to recreate the secret image they were looking at without using words? This involved a few levels of coding - demonstrating to the children the need for the precise algorithms that computers follow and that they don't speak our languages.
Year 4 have been hard at work attempting to create their Viking Ships, their challenge was to create a 'boat' which could travel across the hard floor without it being pushed along - a problem solving exercise giving the children the chance to work as a team and overcome problems. Their boats are all ready to be used in their Green Screen Animation sequences tomorrow.
Year 5 have delved in to the world of AI, developing a tourist information app which could be used to suggest North American tourist spots to potential visitors. This has required a mix of research, data input and complex coding.
Today at Weddington Primary School, we celebrated SID 2019.
Thanks to the #WWW team who were very brave to stand up in front of so many children, they did such an amazing job of delivering the key messages from today.
Ask your child what they found out today about safer internet day.

Today in school, we are celebrating Safer Internet Day 2019: Together for a Better Internet. Thinking about permission and how we can help make the internet a better place.
There will be a KS1 assembly and a separate KS2 one (both led by my amazing #WWW team).
Additionally, the teachers have all planned some fun and thought provoking lessons for the children to enjoy in class.
