Hayley Aley - Parent Governor - Chair of Governors
I am a previous student of Weddington Primary and have lived within Weddington for the majority of my life. I have 5 children who have flourished at the hands of Weddington Primary School teachers and staff, my youngest 2 still are students at this brilliant school. My background is as a serving police officer and additionally as a critical friend to governing bodies in policing as a representative for all police officers.
My passion is to assist the school in being the best that it can possibly be and being a critical friend to the head on behalf of parents as a collective, to benefit the school and its students, in my role as parent governor.
Gwyneth Evans - Vice Chair, Co-Opted Governor - Early Years, SEND Resources Lead
My name is Gwyneth Evans.
I am passionate about the place of a school in promoting equality for children and securing the best education for every child.
I retired in 2017 after 43 years of teaching in Primary Schools, 29 of those as Headteacher, and so this role of Governor is a change of emphasis for me. It is a role that requires commitment and I am pleased to undertake that fully.
When I visit the school I always see a stimulating environment where children are learning with confidence and enjoyment.
I am very proud of all the school has achieved so far and I am delighted to be able to play a part in this team of governors in helping to shape the future of Weddington Primary School.
Angela Greenway - Co-Opted Governor - Science/Technology & Data Lead
I feel privileged to support the school in my capacity as governor after previously being involved with the school in a professional capacity.
In various roles I have had the experience of working in education for the past 20 years. Presently I run a teaching school which allows me to support schools in need, facilitate professional development for existing teachers and train new ones. I am therefore able to bring expertise to an already knowledgeable team of governors.
I’m looking forward to supporting the governors’ and headteacher’s vision which in turn will allow pupils to have the best possible experiences within this wonderful school.
Kelly Nicklin - Parent Governor & Curriculum
As the parent of two sons in the school. I am very keen support the school by contributing to the Governing body. I have been very impressed with the experiences that my sons have had at Weddington so far and having visited other local schools (when making the decision about our choice of school) I was the most impressed with Weddington because I felt that the ethos of the school, the curriculum and the care given to pupils as individuals was very strong. My skill set in relation to my job will support my role as Parent Governor in providing a perspective on teaching, learning and assessment. I am currently the PGCE Secondary Programme Leader at Birmingham City University and Senior Lecturer in Music Education. Prior to this role I was a secondary school music teacher for ten years before moving into Initial Teacher Education. I am so proud of the school’s recent Ofsted inspection outcome and I look forward to working with governing body in supporting the school to continue to improve and develop so that all of our pupils continue to make outstanding progress.
I joined the Governing team in March 2020 as a parent governor. I have two girls, who starting September 2020, will be in Year 1 and Reception. I am passionate about the place of school experience in children’s lives and hope that my 10 years’ experience as a primary school teacher, at a large Nuneaton primary school, will enable me to support Weddington Primary school in their continuing drive to develop and grow. I look forward to learning in my role as parent governor and being proactive in ensuring parental viewpoint can have a positive impact on the present and future of our school and pupils.
Julie Owen - Staff Governor
My name is Julie Owen and I have been teaching at Weddington Primary School for 3 years. I love the inclusivity of our school ethos, however, recognise that this does not come without an impact on the Staff who are devoted to supporting the children.
After being voted in by the Staff of the School, I became the voice of all staff at Governing Body meetings. Although I am not in a position to take any one particular line, on behalf of one person, I am able to represent the feelings and ideas from school staff in general and believe that it is extremely important that all staff are given feed-back of the Governors’ decision-making. I am the staff representative, reporting in good faith, any widely held staff views. I am also an active governor, acting as a critical friend to the school leaders, and helping to shape Weddington’s school policies and procedures on behalf of the staff.
Jonathon Buckingham - Parent Governor
I joined the Governing team in September 2020 as a parent governor. I have a daughter in reception and a son starting in the pre-school in September 2021. I have a background in construction project management and look forward to applying some of the skills to this new role. I am keen to learn more about how Weddington Primary School is run, understand some of the challenges that are being faced and how its core values and principals can further be upheld to help it become an outstanding school.
