Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today Weddington ran their 2014 Maths day.
Throughout the day every year group visited either the KS1 or KS2 hall to try and solve a huge range of math puzzles and problems.
The children were really engaged, working well together and using a great range of mathematical vocabulary and thinking. Well done everybody
Many thanks go to the group of Gifted and Talented Y4 and 5 children, those in Year 6 (who were not at PGL) plus those in Blue group who helped Mr Rock to run each of the activities. They spent their time helping all the other children to solve the problems.
On Monday and Tuesday this week all of the children in the school had the opportunity to experience 'Science in a Suitcase' as part of their Science day activities.
The Key Stage Two hall was set up with a wide variety of scientific 'hands on' activities covering areas such as light, sound, electricity, movement, colour and forces.
The children were dazzled by the bubble show at the start of their session before having time to explore all of the different activities
It was great to hear such a wide range of scientific vocabulary being used as the children were exploring each activity, trying to find out what scientific process was taking place.
After school on Monday parents were invited in to explore the scientific experiments also. Thank you to all those who attended.
Here are some of the comments made by the children about the day:
" It was fascinating"
"I loved the big bubble"
" I liked finding out how things worked"
"The multi-mirror kaleidoscopes were amazing!"
"What an incredibly awesome experience, I loved it!"
This week we have welcomed into school members of the 'Friends of Weddington' parent/staff group.
They have been working with children in Key Stage Two to create some art work which will be displayed in our newly refurbished KS2 Quad area.
The children in Year 3 - 6 had great fun choosing an insect/flower that was going to be their template, then tracing it onto acrylic before cutting out and personalising them.
Thank you to Mrs Millar and Mrs Williams for giving up their time today.
We had a fantastic turnout for the Literacy and Numeracy Curriculum meeting for parents that took place on Monday 16th June.
This was delivered by Mrs Young who is one of the deputy headteacher and Literacy coordinator and Mr Rock who is our Numeracy leader. This was an opportunity for parents to learn about the changes to the curriculum that will be taking place next year.
If you were unable to attend you may wish to download the slides and handouts from the meeting which can be found in the parents' tab on our website.
Thank you to all those who did attend the meeting and for the very positive feedback that was given.
We travelled to the Aegon Classic Tournament on Wednesday 11th June. Children from 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a coaching session with LTA coaches and special guest 'Judy Murray'.
As part of the session we had the chance to have a question and answers session.
Faith asked her 'What inspired her to play and be involved in Tennis?'
She said that her parents were fans of the sport and she grew up watching tennis on TV and had aspirations to become a player like them.
For the rest of the day the children watched Tennis on the outside courts in the sun.
Thank you to all the staff involved for organising and taking us on the trip
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
