Autumn Term 2022
Year One have had a great start into the New Academic Year. Ms. Robertson and Miss Humphries are delighted with how they have adapted to the transition from Reception into Year One!
We are getting to grips with new routines, coming in quietly and settling down to our morning work.
Our Topic this term is ’Once Upon a Time'. We will be reading and learning about The Three Little Pigs and discovering the best materials to make a house to keep them safe from the Big Bad Wolf. We are excited to see what other twisted tales might come along next term.
We will also be working on our place value in Maths. After our October break, we will begin our Addition and Subtraction block of learning, with lots of exciting ways of working out our number sentences and recognising the symbols. We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shapes.
At the beginning of October we were very lucky to have a visit from Pastor Jason Hydon from Bethel Baptist Church in Bedworth. He talked to us about Christianity and the significance of the Bible to Christians.
Homework and Spellings
Year 1 children will take home two pieces of homework every Friday. The first piece will have a Maths or English focus based on what we have covered in school that week. The second piece of homework will be a spelling sheet. These words will be tested in a written spelling test in school the following Friday. We recommend that spellings are practiced every day, you can find a list of spelling ideas and games below.
Children will also take home a new reading book every Friday. This book will correspond with their RWI group/level in school. Children are encouraged to read for 10 minutes every day. Reading can be recorded in their red reading logs.
Homework and reading books should be returned to school every Wednesday.
PE
PE for Year 1 will take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Children can come to school wearing their full PE kit (dark joggers or shorts, white t-shirt, and dark hoody, zipped jacket or blue school jumper).
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
