Today we welcomed “The Power of One” anti-bullying show into Weddington Primary. 

Two actors used coloured boxes and masks to vividly portray what bullying is and what can be done about it. 

Their message focused on how every child has the power of one, the power to report and deal with bullying when they see it.

They began by outlining the different types of bullying that can occur:

• Physical 
• Verbal
• Exclusion
• Cyber bullying. 
•  

Their scenes showed examples of each type of bullying and progressed to outline the different roles in bullying: Bully, Target, and Bystander.

• The children were shown that Targets need help and intervention.
• Students were encouraged not to be bystanders and instead be 'upstanders'.
• The need for individual action to make the community a safer, better place was emphasized.
• Children were referred to trusted adults such as parents, carers and teachers for further assistance and instruction.

All of the children in the audience then took the Power of One anti-bullying oath and will be signing a poster board showing the oath:

• I will not bully others,
• I will not stand by while others are bullied,
• I will report and deal with bullying whenever I see it,
• Because I have the Power of One.
