We had the most fantastic experience today when Google Expeditions came to visit us, bringing with them their virtual reality equipment.
The children in KS1 were given phones loaded with Google Expeditions (available for you to download at home free of charge) allowing them to explore virtual reality worlds in 360 degrees detail. As they moved the phones around they could explore different parts of the virtual world which had been selected by their teacher.
They had out of this world educational experiences looking at the solar system and coral reefs with their teachers able to point them to points of interest, giving facts as they explored.
But of course it wouldn't be Christmas without exploring the North Pole and Santa's workshop!
KS2 were able to experience the Virtual Reality on another level by using special viewers (children under 7 should not use the viewers as their eyes are still developing).
This gave the children a 3D 360 degrees view, allowing them to be more submersed in the virtual reality world. Again the children were given a mix of educational worlds and some fun finding Santa and his elves.
We would love to be able to take advantage of this app and give the children the opportunity to learn fantastic facts in a fun engaging way. This is where WE NEED YOUR HELP please! Do you have any old phones running Android KitKat or newer or any Apple phones running iOS8 or above that you would be kind enough to donate to school? If you are able to donate any phones, please ensure they have no personal data on them and you have removed the SIM card and memory card.
We know the children would draw so much from this style of learning. Just look at our photos and videos to see for yourself 😊 Videos can be found on our Class Pages section.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
