Smoothwall Online Safety Hub
As part of our Digital Safeguarding subscription, we now have access to the Smoothwall Online Safety Hub. This is a great opportunity for parents to gain a deeper understanding of what their children are doing online, thus providing them with the knowledge and confidence to speak to their children about safe digital behaviours.
The hub is also a central place where students can find out about key online safety topics or request articles from safeguarding experts, of their own choosing, and gives parents access to up to date digital safety information, app reviews from digital safety experts, and in depth information on popular social media and gaming platforms.
There are no passwords required and the site can be accessed via this link https://warwickshire.onlinesafetyhub.uk/
Qustodio – free accounts for parents
In addition to this, you can also sign up for a free Qustodio account at https://www.qustodio.com . Qustodio gives parents and carers the ability to monitor two household devices for the year (including a 30 day premium trial). Although there is an option to upgrade to a premium version, parents can access the basic version for free.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are currently looking for potential candidates for a Parent Governor role on the school’s Governing body.
This is a rewarding role, where your suggestions on how to improve our school will be welcomed and where you will form part of a strong, effective group. The Governing body is responsible for shaping the future of the school and for holding leaders to account in areas such as financial management, progress and attainment, health, safety and wellbeing.
Meetings take place on Thursday evenings, from 5.30pm onwards, ten times a year. This includes three meetings per term plus a planning meeting at the beginning of the year.
If you are interested in becoming a Governor, or would like further information, please complete an ‘expression of interest form’ and return it to school. This can be done electronically, via https://forms.gle/MUxpXX9FgpnWSNex8 or we can print off a paper copy for you to complete if you contact the school office.
We are always excited to welcome new members to the team and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
J. Kershaw (Head teacher)
On behalf of the school governors

On Tuesday, along with millions of other people all around the world, we celebrated Safer Internet Day. This year's theme was 'Want to Talk About it?' and we certainly did a lot of that! To begin our day, Mrs Haw's wonderful Digital Heroes team bravely delivered an awesome assembly to the entire school, letting them know what Safer Internet Day is, before discussing both the positives and negatives of going online and highlighting the importance of having someone to talk to when things go wrong. Throughout the day, each year group then completed lessons that further explored the importance of talking through any issues they have during their time online. In the evening, Mrs Haw delivered a talk to parents, using a presentation provided by Internet Matters, to discuss issues that young people face online and how to help their child circumvent these so they can enjoy all the benefits the internet has to offer. If you missed the presentation, you can view it here https://youtu.be/3ULdi2jjm6M
Dear Parents and carers,
Given the tragic recent events in Solihull, please can we ask that you remind your children about the risks of ice and stress the importance of never going on to it.

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

Dear Parents / carers,
On Thursday 26th May, we would like to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee to acknowledge her seventy years of dedicated service.
Therefore, weather permitting, the whole school will enjoy a 'street-style' picnic together on the KS2 playground at lunchtime. The children will sit at tables, with their classes and enjoy music and being together outside surrounded by lots of bunting!
There will be no hot dinners on this day. Instead, the school kitchen will provide a cold-lunch option for those who wish to have a school dinner on this day. The children can choose from:
- A meat sandwich option deli bag (ham)
- A vegetarian option deli bag (cheese)
- Bring their own packed lunch from home.
Please complete the form which was sent out via MyEd to indicate whether you will be bringing your own packed lunch or will be ordering a deli bag from school.
As we will need to make arrangements for the day, we do need to know dinner requests in advance. Therefore, we request that you let us know no later than Wednesday 18th May 2022.
Kind regards,
Mrs J. Kershaw and Miss E. Randall.
Dear Parents/Carers,
At Weddington, we are introducing a new scheme called Spelling Shed, to help the children learn spellings in school and at home.
Teachers will show the children how they will log in (from home) and practise their spellings. However, there are more details for parents/carers on the letter below.
Kind regards,
Miss E. Randall.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are delighted to inform you that at Weddington, we have subscribed to a scheme called ‘Spelling Shed’. Spelling Shed is an exciting scheme which aligns with the English National Curriculum for spellings, and allows children to learn them in a fun and exciting way by playing a range of games.
Your child will receive a log-on so that they can access Spelling Shed from home. Their log-on details will include their name, username and password. You can download Spelling Shed as an app but it does cost, so you may wish to consider using the website link as this is free. You will find the website link on your child’s log-on.
How will Spelling Shed work for my child?
- Each week, on a Monday, your child’s class teacher will set your child an assignment.
-The assignment will involve the children logging onto Spelling Shed and practising their assigned spellings, which will be visible on the screen.
- The children should click on ‘view assignment,’ ‘play’ and then ‘play’ again where it says ‘practise your spellings and build your shed score.’
-There are four levels on the practice game and the children should choose the level they think is the most challenging or work their way through to extreme.
-There are two additional games to choose from, ‘Bee Keeper’ and ‘Buzz Words’ which the children can play once they have completed their assignment. These will not be visible until the children have completed their assignment.
- Each child will have an ‘Avatar’ when they log in, which they can personalise. Additional purchases and upgrades can be made using points/honey pots that they have earned from practising their spellings.
- The children can earn points and ‘Honeypots’ by spelling words correctly, speed accuracy and by completing more challenging levels on their practice game.
- You will be able to see a ‘Shed Score’ which is the total of scores for the past rolling 7-day period. Your child’s Shed Score may go down and up each week – this is totally fine as it is dependent on how accurately your child has spelt words in the past 7 days.
If you don’t have online access at home for your child to play Spelling Shed, then your child’s class teacher will be able to send a paper spelling homework home each week. However, if you do have access to a computer or device, we would like the children to practise their spellings through Spelling Shed. Teachers will be able to track how children are getting on with their spelling practice.
We are so excited to begin using Spelling Shed to help improve spellings across the school, and hope that the children will also be excited about learning their spellings in fun and engaging ways. The children will still be tested in school on a Friday and will bring home a spelling list so that you can see what the weekly spellings are.
Please note that to use Spelling Shed, we have only input the children’s first name (surname initial where required) and class which is covered by the GDPR regulations under the EEA.
Yours sincerely,
Miss E Randall
