At Weddington Primary School, the intent of our English curriculum is to:

Develop reading skills: phonics, decoding, blending, fluency, comprehension, and text analysis/interpretation.
Develop writing skills: spelling, handwriting, punctuation, grammar, and writing coherently for different purposes and audiences.
Foster a love of literature in pupils, through the study of a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts.
Develop speaking and listening skills, to communicate effectively and to participate in group discussions/debates.
Enhance vocabulary and understanding of words, and the relationship between words.
