Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Homework

Homework will be sent out every week on a Friday and needs to be returned the following Wednesday. Homework tasks can be selected each week from the ‘menu’ in their homework book as well as daily reading and spelling practice.

Spellings

There will also be a set of spellings included within the homework book. You can practise them inside the book or in by using Spelling Shed.  You will find your Spelling Shed login inside your homework book.  There will be a spelling test each week on a Friday. We will send your results via a message on MyEd or Dojo.

Reading

There will be one reading book sent in your homework pack each week.  This is a colour banded book which matches the RWI group you are in.  Once you have read the banded book, please indicate this in your Reading Record. Please read these books as much as possible, as it helps to build up fluency.  We also encourage you to read books that you have at home and record them in your Reading Record. The more the better! 😊

PE

PE will take place every Monday and Thursday.  Children can come to school wearing their full PE kit (dark joggers or shorts, white t-shirt, black trainers, dark hoody, zipped jacket or blue school jumper).

Thank you for your support,

Year 1 Team 😊

What We're Learning

Please note, this page will be updated termly, so please keep checking back.

Autumn Term

Year One have had a great start into the New Academic Year. Miss Foden, Ms. Robertson and Miss Humphries are delighted with how they have adapted to the transition from Reception into Year One!

We are getting to grips with new routines, coming in quietly and settling down to our morning work.

Our Topic this term is ’Monsters'.  We will be reading and learning about Morris the Mankiest Monster and we can't wait to see what work the children produce!

We will also be working on our place value in Maths.  After our October break, we will begin our Addition and Subtraction block of learning, with lots of exciting ways of working out our number sentences and recognising the symbols. We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shapes.
