Welcome to Year 6
The children have settled well into Year 6 and are particularly enjoying their roles and responsibilities.
In Literacy we've been practising our use of clauses, connectives and punctuation.
We have started reading an adventure story called 'Journey to the River Sea' by Eva Ibbotson. This will link in with our work on 'Going nuts in South America' as it's set around Manaus in Brazil. The main character Maia travels to the Amazon to reach her distant relatives and begins a spectacular journey to the heart of an extraordinary new world.
The Sunday Times described the book as 'The most perfect children's book.....captivatingly told, funny and moving.'
Year 6 have been creating and performing a 10 element sequence in Gymnastics, using both the floor and apparatus. The elements included rolls, jumps, partner balances and travelling taking weight on hands. Ideas such as changes in speed, levels and direction were evident in the sequences. Group work included thinking about which strength and flexibility actions the entire group could perform. The children observed each other performing and suggested ways of improving, giving feedback positively.
In English we are studying 'Stormbreaker' by Anthony Horrowitz.
'When MI6 recognises his potential, Alex Rider is armed with secret gadgets and sent on his first mission. But the teenage spy soon finds himself in mortal danger.'
'Crackling with suspense and daring.' Guardian.
