On 11th January 2017 children in years 5 and 6 enjoyed a Maths Day, taking part in the Crystal Maze.
They travelled through 4 zones; Egypt, India, China and Africa. Within in each zone there was maths challenges related to these places in the world.
I wanted the children to enjoy maths, the questions were challenging but I wanted the children to show perseverance and not give up, it wasn't a competition.
The aim was for the children to be challenged at a mastery level, experience maths in real life problems, attempt maths from other cultures, work collaboratively with other children and groups and generally have fun with maths. Whilst also reflecting on their learning and hopefully seeing the purpose of maths in the real world.
