Across the year there have been three 5/6 races at varies locations, we had great participation levels from boys and girls in Year 5 and 6 and were very proud of their effort, commitment and drive to succeed. In the end we were very fortunate to have three boys from Year 3 who overall after the 3 races were in the top 20 classification.
Sam Yates - 4th
Zach Sutton - 9th
McKenzie - 12th
The Sam, Zach and McKenzie went onto represent Nuneaton and Bedworth in a race at St Francis Primary in Bedworth on the 5th March '15', from this race the able to qualify for the district team.
Mr Skilling 'I had the pleasure to go along and watch the three boys compete for Nuneaton and Bedworth, it was amazing think that the children were all Year 5 and were races against many children in Year 6, as School were are so pleased with the sporting talent the children have at Weddington Primary and tonight was one of these moments I was able to go along and enjoy watching how talented these three boys are!'
All 3 children did amazingly well, cross country is a special sport as it celebrates both individual and team success. As a team the children were part of a team that came 2nd Place in the inter-district competition. Individually we liked to say well to all three boys for qualifying for this race. But special mention needs to made to Sam (4th) and Zach (39) who qualified for the next level of the competition. This race was at Woodside Primary, Grendon on 11th March, where the children were competing in a much larger field of competitors to an even higher standard. The top 20 children (21-25 reserves) would go on to represent the Northern Area Team.
We again to say how thoroughly proud we are of these two boys achievements, Zach came 26th!
Zach 'It was extremely hard! I'm really happy with my position and will definitely be back to compete again in Year 6'
Sam did amazingly well and qualified for the Northern Area Team, coming 4th out of all the boys! He will be competing at the next race at Hartshill Hayes County Park on 21st March '15', everyone at Weddington School wish you the all best and look forward to hearing the news of how well you do!
Sam 'At the start of the race I was nervous, the course was very hilly but at the end I will so happy with my finishing position'
The year so far in football has been a real mix, the children have been developing as a team the more they have played together. We have two 5/6 teams and have played in the U11 Cup and League. In the cup we met Milby in the Quarter Finals, the team played with amazing spirit and sportsmanship, battling right until the end but on the day Milby beat us 4-2 and went on in the cup.
In the league we have been doing really well and so far are unbeaten. Whilst playing in the league we have been able to take our B Team along for friendlies and they have been doing really well, developing and really enjoying themselves.
Fixture 1 Twycross Away
The A team were amazing beating Twycross 3-0, we were solid at the back, with Taylor our goalie making amazing safe late in the first half to keep the scores level. In second half we had lots of chances and the pressure told in the end with Harry, Nathan and Matthew scoring.
Whilst the league match was taking place the B team had their first ever match, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, playing with great team spirit and won their match 4-1.
Fixture 2 St Josephs Away
The A team played in a match that was end to end, with both teams having great chances to take the lead. The match was deep into its final stages and was looking like it was going end in with an entertaining 0-0 draw but St Josephs had an attack and the referee adjudge that there had been an infringement in the box and gave a penalty to St Josephs. The took the lead when the forward scored a well taken penalty. To Weddington's credit they didn't let their heads drop from the kick off Harry took a chance and had a shot, lobbing their goalie from deep in his own half. Even after this both teams had chances to score but the 1-1 draw was the fair result for both sets of players. Well Done Lads!
Again we were able to take a B Team along to play a friendly, they went 2-0 down early on, when the players regained their composure and started playing like they can, they pulled a goal back through a well taken goal from McKenzie. The children kept battling and it looked like if there was going to be more goals in the game, there was only going to be one team that would score it. Unfortunately the score remained the same and we lost the match 2-1 but we were so very proud of the teams fighting spirit.
At Weddington we have been really pleased with both the Year 5 and Year 6 netball teams, they haven't had the success as in winning the cups and leagues but they have been amazingly successful in their progression and improvement over the course of the tournaments.
Mrs Atkins and Miss Young have said how brilliant their attitude and commitment has been, they have an amazing never give up attitude! They play with wonderful smiles and every time they play they get better and better!
Congratulations to both netball teams!
As part of our affiliation with North Warwickshire School Sports we have been able to provide FA Coaching to all children in year 4! The children have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity.
Up Coming Events
Year 4 and 5 will be taking part in Bikeability training Level 1 and Level 2. The level 1 course is aimed to improve confidence and coordination whilst cycling and is based on the playground. Level 2 is designed to develop road sense, create an awareness of traffic dangers and to improve your child’s ability to ride safely on the road. Most of the training for the Level 2 course takes place on the road.
Aegon Classic Tennis Trip - Every year we enter the poll to gain tickets to take children along to watch the Womens World Tour Event in Birmingham, the aim of the event is for children to experience watching top level sport and enjoy the environment. Also children have an active coaching session and last year for example had the once in a life time opportunity of working with Judy Murray (Andy Murray 'British Number 1 and World Number 4's Mum and British Women's Federation Cup Captain).
Kwik Cricket - Currently there is 5/6 club running in school after school on a Thursday, there will be future tournaments and we look forward to continuing our great success from last year and competing in the Year 6 Kwik Cricket competition that we won last year.
